ADHD

Many people experience occasional forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, or impulsivity in their daily lives. However, for some, these challenges may be more persistent and severe, potentially indicating ADHD. If you find that these difficulties significantly interfere with your ability to function at work, school, or in relationships, it might be worth discussing with a healthcare professional to determine if ADHD could be a factor.

Types of ADHD

For a diagnosis, these symptoms must significantly impact social, academic, or occupational activities and be more pronounced than what is typically observed in others at a similar developmental stage. Not everyone with ADHD will exhibit all of these symptoms, and the severity can vary greatly from person to person. Symptoms can overlap with other conditions, so it’s essential to consult with a qualified healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

Inattention

Those who are disorganized, easily distracted, often forgetful, have difficulty maintaining focus, do not follow through with instructions, avoid tasks requiring sustained mental effort, have careless mistakes in school or work, and frequently lose items necessary for tasks.

Hyperactive and Impulsive

Those who often fidget, have difficulty remaining seated, have inappropriate running or climbing, an inability to engage in activities, quietly, talk excessively, talk out-of-turn, interrupts others, and is often "on-the-go" or feels like they are "driven by a motor."

Combined-type

Some find their symptoms are not exclusive to either inattention or hyperactive, but have qualities of both.

How do you treat ADHD?

Medication Management

Medication is often considered to be first-line treatment for ADHD and can really turn someone's life around.  Our experienced provider works closely with each patient to find the most effective medication, considering factors such as individual health profiles and potential side effects, to improve mood, energy levels, and overall quality of life.

Supportive Services

Understanding the multifaceted nature of ADHD, we also emphasize the importance of accessing supportive services. This may include referral to counseling or psychotherapy for those who might benefit from it, even though our primary focus is on medication management. We also guide patients towards local or online support groups, where shared experiences can provide additional layers of understanding and support.

Lifestyle Guidance

Lifestyle adjustments play a crucial role in managing ADHD. At GoodMind, we provide guidance on incorporating physical activity, balanced nutrition, and adequate sleep into daily routines. Stress management techniques and mindfulness practices are also encouraged to complement medical treatment and enhance overall well-being.

Educational Resources

Educating patients and their families about ADHD is a vital component of our treatment approach. We offer resources that explain the symptoms, causes, and treatments of ADHD, empowering patients with the knowledge to better understand their condition and the recovery process.
